Exploration of Tree Lichen

Lichen consists of a fungus and an algae living in symbiosis on a tree. The algae provides nutrients derived from photosynthesis. Fungus provides shelter to algae and absorbs water and nutrients from the tree bark. Lichen are hard to photograph through a microscope because they are opaque. When you take them from the bark of the tree you carry thick layers of wood fiber with them. I tried to shave pieces of lichen away from the wood with only partial success. But I did get some images.
